Liven Union Websites Up With Photo Galleries

When someone hands you a stack of photographs, do you find yourself lingering a wee bit longer on the pictures with you in them? No, don't worry, you're probably not a narcissist. It's only natural to want to see how you're represented to the rest of the world.

Your union or organization can take advantage of the natural sense of self-curiousity by taking lots of photos of members and featuring them on your site in a photo gallery. It's a surefire way of attracting members and other visitors eager to see how their photos came out. What's more, it introduces the visiting public to some of the indidviduals who make up the union. Instead of a faceless, souless organization, your union will come alive in the mind of website viewers when they see images of the real, smiling people on the job, at a rally, or volunteering out in the community.

Prometheus recently went live with a photo gallery for the Massachusetts AFL-CIO. It has quickly become one of the most heavily trafficked parts of the site. If you visit it, notice how when you view an image, the rest of the page goes dark and the photo appears in a white border. That really helps the photograph pop off the screen in a way that's quite stunning. It's the same effect we use in our image galleries here on the Prometheus Labor Communication site. (If you're not seeing this darkened background effect, make sure you are clicking the thumbnail of the photo, and not the title. You might also be using old or obscure web browsing software.)

With a Prometheus site, you can upload hundreds of digital photos from your hard drive in less than 3 mintues. It's as easy as dragging and dropping your photos and clicking a button. They'll then get uploaded to our servers and be displayed immediately.

Imagine being able to take pictures of a big function and then having them up on your site the same day. Once they're up, send out an email with a link back to the gallery and watch the hits come rolling in!
